Bennetts, the motorcycle insurance specialist, has continued its ongoing support in the local community with a host of activities designed to raise funds for its nominated charity, the Light Project Peterborough (LPP).
LPP is a charity dedicated to serving those in need across the Peterborough area, running a range of activities coordinated to help and support people and acting as the voice of the vulnerable.
Over the past six months, Bennetts has held a multitude of fundraising efforts, each one led by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) committee. From Bingo to an afternoon at the Oscars, each event was designed to not only support Light Project Peterborough but bring the wider Bennetts team together for some fun. Additionally, the CSR team has enabled a further £250 donation towards the city food bank and £250 towards a local girls’ football team.
Friday 6th May saw the headline fundraising event, with a city-wide ‘Big Sleep Out’. Alongside helping to raise funds for the charity, the event also brought awareness of the experiences that those sleeping rough face every day. Seven members of the Bennetts Peterborough team took part in this initiative, raising a whopping £1,792 between them. Bennetts will be matching these funds, doubling the total contribution to the LPP fundraising efforts.
Elaine Barter, Commercial Finance Manager and member of the CSR Committee:
“Being part of the team that took part in this year’s Big Sleep Out was quite the challenge, but that was reflected in the amount of money we raised, which was just overwhelming. The Sleep Out also highlighted how important the work of the LPP really is and why we should be supporting all of their efforts.”
Jo Wright, Senior QA Analyst and Head of the CSR committee:
“The CSR committee is an integral part of Bennetts, not only giving back to the local community that we operate within but also creating fun opportunities for members of the team to connect, which post-lockdown is so important for our culture.”
On Friday, 24th June, the Bennetts CSR committee further showed their commitment to the community with an afternoon of litter picking across the Lynch Wood business park and surrounding area. Endorsed and encouraged by the board of Directors at Bennetts, employees were given the afternoon to support the effort, collecting plenty of litter and providing an opportunity to break the routine.
Up next, the CSR committee are turning their attention to organising a ‘sports day’ in mid-July, helping to create another unique opportunity for new members of the team to integrate with their colleagues outside of the typical working environment while having fun!
