If you’re into bikes, chances are it’s a passion that’s been passed down from your dad.
That’s certainly true of Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness, whose father owned a bike shop in Morecambe and shaped the formative years of a career that would see him go on to become British 250cc Champion and winner at the famous Daytona races, before going on to become the most successful active TT racer, with 23 wins to his credit.
In this special Father’s Day video, produced in association with tyre giants Dunlop, John speaks of his dad’s ongoing influence in his career, from being his mechanic in the formative years to the relationship they have today, where his dad remains his biggest supporter.
McGuinness is himself known in the paddock as a family man, rarely being seeing at the races without wife Becky, son Ewan and daughter Maisie. In the second film, John talks about having children and being a father himself has changed the way he has approached his racing. Surprisingly, he says that having a family to support has made him faster, as the need to provide for them has made him a faster and more determined racer.
John is supporting Dunlop’s ‘Ultimate Roadtrip’ campaign, which gives one rider a month an opportunity to win a set of the new RoadSmart III sport touring tyres between now and the end of September. For a chance to win, you need to upload a picture of your summer road trip to @dunlopmoto on Twitter or www.facebook.com/DunlopMoto and use the hashtag #DunlopRoadtrip
