First Yamaha Ténéré 700s priced at £8399

Yamaha’s Ténéré 700 is without doubt one of the most eagerly-anticipated bikes of 2019 and now the firm has revealed what you’ll need to pay to get your hands on one.

Initially, that magic number is set at £8399, and don’t try to haggle as it applies only to online orders. Yamaha says the first batch of Ténéré 700s delivered to the UK, scheduled for delivery in July, will go exclusively to customers who pre-order the bikes via the web, using a system that will be launched on 27 March. That online process, and the introductory price, will be available until 31^st July.

Anyone wanting to go down the more traditional path of visiting a dealer to get their bike will need to wait until September, when the second batch of bikes is due to arrive on these shores. And they’ll have to pay more, too, as the retail price will simultaneously rise to £8699.

Both the introductory price and the higher RRP from September exclude On-The-Road charges.

Compared to rivals like the KTM 790 Adventure (£10,099) and Honda Africa Twin (£10,999), the Ténéré looks relatively cheap, but it’s in a lower performance category than either of those machines with 72hp compared to 95hp. On power and price, the Yamaha is closer to the 77hp, £8225 BMW F750GS, but the German bike lacks the Ténéré’s more serious off-road slant.

However, the Ténéré 700 is significantly more expensive than the £6349 MT-07 that shares the same parallel twin engine. By forgoing the adventure bike styling and off-road ability, MT-07 buyers save more than £2000.
